John Pennekamp Coral Reef State – Key Largo, Florida
Welcome to the first underwater park in the United States. The park encompasses approximately 70 nautical square miles. You will be able to enjoy the mangrove swamps and tropical hammocks in the park’s upland areas but the coral reefs and their associated marine life will have you gasping at the beauty.
If you aren’t a diver then you can enjoy the view from a glass bottom boast tour but getting up close and personal by scuba diving is the real thrill of the area.
Canoeing and kayaking through the waters are available too; you can also fish in designated areas. Take a hike on the two short trails, grab a picnic lunch or swim in the beaches. All of these will make a spectacular day for you.
Stop in at the Visitor Center and see the 30,000 gallon saltwater aquarium and theater showing nature videos.
Even if you are disabled you will be able to enjoy the park. The park is set up with: ADA Bathhouses
ADA Picnic Tables
Shower Grab Bar
Showers with Seats
Wheelchair Tie-downs on Boats
So get out there and enjoy yourself.
There are baby changing stations available for the little ones.
You can bring your pet to the park as long as it is on a leash at all times.
There are RV and tent sites available to rent.
